Aroha Organic Goat Cheese

Passion and dedicated has spurred this company onwards and upwards in recent years. Aroha's selection of organic goat cheese reflects their dedication to their animals, their farm and their consumers.

How did your business begin?

“Our journey started approximately 19 years ago when we purchased our first two dairy goats. Time went on, and we applied for our Cheese Registration for pasteurised cheese in 2004. One of our proudest moments was in 2012 when we obtained the first ever New Zealand issued registration for raw milk cheese.”

“Now, we produce certified organic Gouda Goat cheese from the beautiful, rich, sweet milk of our Anglo Nubian girls.”

“Our cheese is not just cheese. It is a journey which starts with looking after the land and our precious girls, and our handcrafted product is like the final trophy.”

What are the current product range and variants and how do these products stand out in the market?

“In previous years we produced nine different flavours of Gouda goat cheese. However, we have since simplified things, improving our quality and focus. Now our range includes Rich, Plain, Cumin, Fenugreek and Pepperazzi. They all have a delicious edible rind as we don’t plastic coat or vacuum pack."

“All of our flavours are handcrafted, and the central ingredient Aroha ties them all together nicely.”

“Our products are one of a kind as we are the only company in New Zealand producing certified organic raw milk goat cheese.”

How has your company changed in recent years?

“In the past, we farmed two different goat breeds, and we mixed their milk to create our products. Nowadays we only farm the Anglo Nubian goat breed. We do this because their milk is rich and sweet, which benefits the cheesemaking process.”

“We have a 'Latest News' link on our website home page which keeps our customers updated, as well as a regularly updated Facebook page.”

What are the plans for the business moving forward, is there any expansion on the horizon?

“We want to stay small. We are passionate about what we are doing, and our philosophy on how this all is done is an integral part of our business. We believe in producing a product from loved and cared for animals, each of them has their own name and unique personalities. Farming on a larger scale would not fit this vision.”

Where are your products currently available to buy?

“We sell via our website and small quantities go to selected organic shops. We are primarily a make-to-order company.”
