DB Releases 2021 Sustainability Report

Matt WIlson from DB Breweries releases sustainability report

The DB Breweries 2021 sustainability report was released yesterday and outlines how the company is tracking towards its 2030 production objectives. These include switching to 100 percent renewable energy, halving the plastic footprint and balancing 100 percent of the water volume consumed in production.

"As members of the Sustainable Business Council and the Climate Leaders Coalition, we are helping to create a greener, carbon-free New Zealand. We delivered on some major carbon reduction projects at DB in 2021, including the switch to biomass-derived steam at our DB Draught Brewery in Timaru, the replacement of LPG-powered forklifts with a fully electric fleet, and our on-road Sales fleet continuing to transition away from combustion engines to hybrids. We now continue our journey to find renewable alternatives for steam supply to our Waitematā Brewery to be net zero in production emissions by 2030, and carbon neutral in our full supply chain by 2040," said Matt Wilson, Managing Director.

There are several highlights from the report. DB had a 35 percent reduction in scope one and two emissions from the 2018 baseline, recieved the Toitū Enviromark Diamond accreditation for the second year in a row and had almost 96 percent of spending go to local suppliers. DB also contributed nearly $365,000 to local community partnerships, sponsorships and education while maintaining a zero percent gender pay gap.

DB has three breweries, one cidery and two experience breweries across NZ, where it employs 434 people. The company is committed to "operating with integrity, in an ethical and responsible manner."

"I am excited to continue our sustainability agenda to brew a better New Zealand and continue to pursue our ambitious sustainability targets," said Wilson.
