Foodstuffs South Island has introduced SAP S/4 HANA RISE as part of its 14-month digital transformation. The new software will operate across its 200 stores, and will be used by 14,000 staff and 1,200 suppliers.

The system will now equip employees with a synchronised, real-time view of business data, which will focus on key insights for pricing strategies, which has been a major breakthrough for the cloud transformation process, and customer preferences, which has significantly elevated shelf space allocation for high turnover products.

Vendors have also profited from the transformation, with enhanced involvement and the ability to upload and monitor promotions directly into Foodstuffs South Island’s operational systems. Employees will also be more capable of managing retail offers, allowing the redirection to other essential tasks. Staff have also been introduced to the new system, including handheld technologies linked to SAP, from which they can adjust inventory, review product recommendations, and prepare click and collect orders.

Chief digital officer for Foodstuffs South Island, Shayne Tong, said the company’s people are at the heart and soul of the co-op, and its members and suppliers were instrumental to its success. He added that the company viewed technology as an enabler of improving the experience across all its departments.

Tong said that by updating its technology and systems through SAP, Foodstuffs South Island has streamlined its many areas of operation, which has made the work easier and quicker for staff.

The managing director of SAP New Zealand, Adrian Griffin, praised the successful implementation of the new system. He said that by turning to the cloud, Foodstuffs South Island had already enabled a data-driven approach to its operations, which would help the business pave a path for sustainable future growth and deliver long-term value for its people and customers.

Foodstuffs South Island has plans to further transform its digital software, which will include  SAP’s artificial intelligence capabilities and will improve forecasting and inventory management.
