He used to be praised for his ‘exceptional palate’ and knowledge, but Australian wine expert and former sommelier Lak Quach may have loved fine wine a little too much.
Quach has been accused by his employer, Cellarhand, of stealing up to NZ$320,000 worth of wine while working as a specialist buyer. According to hospitality sources, the stolen wine was then sold online or to Melbourne’s restaurants and retailers for a discounted price, with Quach reportedly using the proceeds to expand his private collection.
