NO STRUCTURAL DAMAGE DURING EARTHQUAKE

"Countdown Eastgate suffered no structural damage during the earthquake, which was confirmed by an engineer's inspection. All Countdown stores are open and operational in Christchurch," said the supermarket chain in a statement, denying earlier reports of damage and injury.

A Christchurch man claimed that a woman had a heart attack and the roof collapsed during Sunday's quake, but he has since retracted the claims.

"Thankfully, during the earthquake no Countdown customers or team members were injured," said Countdown spokesperson.
