Making Healthy Eating Budget Friendly

Healthy Eating

AUS | According to research from Woolworths Australia, there has been a decline in the percentage of people who claim to eat healthily, dropping from 65 percent to 58 percent in the past year. Lack of time and the perception that healthier foods are expensive are the top reasons for not eating healthier.

In response to these findings, Woolworths has introduced over 60 budget-friendly recipes, each costing less than $5 per serving, to assist customers in adopting healthier eating habits. These recipes on the Healthier Inspiration hub include options such as Healthier Cheat’s Pork Ragu, Chicken Fattoush, and Air-fryer Taquitos.

Woolworths has launched a new online Meal Planner tool to facilitate customer meal planning. Until the end of summer, this tool will generate pre-populated healthier meal plans, incorporating affordable recipes, thereby simplifying the meal planning process for customers.

To make healthier foods more accessible, Woolworths includes options with a Health Star Rating (HSR) of 3.5 and above in its seasonal Price Dropped and Low Price programs. Additionally, Woolworths offers The Odd Bunch range, which provides healthier foods that are at least 20 percent cheaper than comparable fruit and vegetable products.

Woolworths also provides recommendations for eating healthier on a budget, such as batch cooking recipes, taking advantage of deflation on fruits and vegetables, making small changes and healthier food swaps, and utilising online tools on their website.

Furthermore, Woolworths has focused on making its own brand products healthier by reducing salt, sugar, and saturated fat content while increasing the inclusion of vegetables and whole grains. This effort has earned Woolworths the title of Australia’s healthiest own brand for the fifth consecutive year.

Despite these efforts, research findings suggest that various factors, including price, motivation, convenience, and taste, hinder people from adopting healthier eating habits. However, initiatives like those introduced by Woolworths aim to address these barriers and encourage individuals to choose healthier diets.
