Almost a year after the announcement that Countdown would be rebranded entirely, Woolworths has officially debuted in the New Zealand market. 

As part of this launch, Woolworths will be accompanied by a renewed commitment to its Fresh or Free guarantee, marking a milestone in its transformation journey. 

In addition, they have launched That Fresh Food Journey, which symbolises their promise to bring New Zealanders the best supermarket experience every day and the return of the Woolworths brand to New Zealand. 

“We know our customers expect us to bring them value with quality fresh products, from produce to meat, seafood, deli, and bakery goods, especially with the cost of living remaining at the top of everyone’s minds,” said Spencer Sonn, Woolworths New Zealand managing director. 

“Our promise is to deliver that in every one of our 191 stores, and if we don’t get it right, we want to be held accountable. That’s why we’re renewing our Fresh or Free promise. If one of our customers is unhappy with the quality of a fresh product in our stores, we ask that they return it to us, and we’ll refund them and replace the product.” 

The team behind Fresh or Free clarified that food waste and insecurity are major issues in New Zealand, which they wish to combat with this new campaign. This change has pushed Woolworths to investigate potential issues with its supply chain and in-store availability. 

“That Fresh Food Feeling shows our customers what Woolworths New Zealand is all about: feeding your family fresh, healthy food, supporting our local communities, and new and convenient ways to do your shopping,” added Brid Drohan-Stewart, Woolworths New Zealand’s brand director. 

Since the change of Countdown to Woolworths in July 2023, several initiatives were made by the brand to benefit communities. These include investing in new stores and refurbishing older ones, rolling out more value for customers through reward cards, modernising its supply chain, improving team benefits, investing heavily in customer and team saving and expanding ultra convenience offerings with MILKRUN.
