Reducing Lactose In Milk

N3 Milk

Nestlé has recently unveiled its latest innovation, N3 milk, crafted from cow's milk and enriched with essential nutrients. The proprietary technology employed by Nestlé reduces lactose content through specialised enzymes while generating beneficial prebiotic fibres. This results in a milk product with all the critical nutrients of traditional milk, a lower lactose content, and over 15 percent fewer calories.

The N3 milk range, featuring full cream and skimmed milk products, each high in protein to support a balanced family diet, has been introduced in China. Nestlé's clinical studies have demonstrated that the prebiotic fibres in N3 milk promote the growth of bifidobacteria in the gut, delivering microbiome benefits in healthy adults.

In addressing the specific nutritional needs associated with aging, the N3 range includes two fortified products enriched with vitamins, minerals, and probiotics to support bone health, muscle growth and strength, and immunity.

Stefan Palzer, Nestlé Chief Technology Officer, expressed excitement about the launch, highlighting this science-based innovation's uniqueness that caters to lactose intolerance consumers and those seeking improved gastrointestinal health. He emphasised the potential for N3 milk to serve as a foundation for developing the next generation of nutritious products.

Nestlé's N3 range marks a groundbreaking achievement as the first milk product globally to contain prebiotic fibres derived from intrinsic lactose found in milk. Leveraging its extensive global R&D capabilities, including centres in Switzerland and Singapore, Nestlé adapted the technology to meet the dietary preferences of Chinese consumers, many of whom are sensitive to lactose.

David Zhang, CEO of Zone Greater China for Nestlé, highlighted the transformative impact of N3 on the milk-drinking experience for Chinese consumers, especially those with lactose and gastrointestinal sensitivities. He praised the launch in China as a testament to Nestlé's commitment to bringing relevant innovations to local consumers.

Nestlé's focus on innovative technologies aligns with its broader mission to enhance the nutritional value of products and provide consumers with nutritious offerings that complement a balanced diet. The introduction of N3 milk is expected to extend to other product categories, reflecting Nestlé's commitment to supporting lifelong health and well-being across different life stages.
