Latin America’s In-Mold Labels Sector

Latin America's In-Mold Labels Sector

According to a recent FMI report, Latin America's in-mold labels industry size is expected to flourish at a CAGR of 5.8 percent in the next decade.

There is a growing emphasis on product presentation and branding in the region, particularly in the F&B, cosmetics, and automotive sectors.

With a focus on sustainability and environmentally friendly packaging solutions, in-mold labels can be produced using recyclable materials, reducing waste and promoting a circular economy.

Technological advancements, such as improvements in printing technologies, enable companies to produce in-mold labels with intricate designs, vibrant colours, and high-resolution graphics. This offers a premium and customised packaging solution that helps brands stand out in a competitive market.

In-mold labels also offer durability and resistance to environmental factors such as moisture, chemicals, and UV exposure. This is particularly important in the cosmetics sector, where products often come into contact with liquids, creams, and other substances. They are more durable and can be made tamper-evident, which can help to protect products from counterfeiting.

They can also help to save electricity by eliminating the need for separate labelling machines. By being molded directly onto the product, they reduce the need for energy-intensive processes such as printing and applying adhesives and help to save labour costs.

However, the limited availability of specialised machinery and equipment, potential compatibility issues and regulatory requirements and standards might impact the use of in-mould labels in specific sectors.

In the last three years, there have been various activities and mergers by leading players.

Multi-Color Corporation declared the addition of a new company, Türkiye-based Korsini, one of the top providers of in-mold label solutions. CCL Industries announced that it had purchased McGavigan Holdings Ltd, a supplier of in-mold components for automotive interiors.
