AUSTRALIA | Woolworths has announced its largest-ever refurbishment investment in the Northern Territory, with a multi-million-dollar renewal of its Casuarina store.
The upgrade will deliver a more modern shopping experience, with a strong focus on fresh food and improved safety for customers and team members.
The redevelopment is currently underway and is expected to be completed in November 2026. The store will remain open throughout the works to continue serving the local community.
As part of the upgrade, customers can look forward to an expanded fresh food offering with an expanded range of 1,200 new products, and a larger bakery featuring new artisan ranges and sweet treats. A new Online Hub will also be introduced, including six additional Direct-to-Boot bays and a dedicated passing lane to improve customer convenience and speed.
Casuarina Store Manager, Lizi Lay, said the team of over 100 locals was excited to see the changes take shape.
“We thank our customers for their patience while we work through the final stages of the redevelopment and look forward to welcoming them to a refreshed store that celebrates fresh, local produce and offers a more seamless way to shop,” said Lay.
In a first for the region, the renewal includes a comprehensive focus on safety. In a first for the region, the store will incorporate Crime Prevention Through Design principles, including a purpose-built, secure team-only car park and a newly designed service desk to better protect team members.
Woolworths State Operations Director for SA, NT and WA, Karl Weber, said the investment would deliver a safer and more modern store for the local community.
“This multi-million dollar investment is about more than just a new coat of paint, it’s about delivering a better shopping experience for our Darwin customers, while ensuring our team is safe at work,” said Weber.
“We are proud to work alongside the Northern Territory Government and the owners of the centre, Sentinel Property Group, to set a new standard for retail excellence and team safety in the Top End.”
Northern Territory Chief Minister Lia Finocchiaro added that Territorians have a right to feel safe whether they’re shopping, taking their children to the supermarket, or heading to work.
“Community safety remains the Northern Territory Government’s top priority, and strengthening measures to protect both employees and customers is a key part of that commitment," said Finocchiaro.
“We’ve already seen encouraging results around Casuarina Square, where the closure of the bus interchange has helped reduce anti-social behaviour near the shopping centre.”
