Clevedon Buffalo Company

Just south of Auckland on the shores of the Hauraki Gulf is a farm unlike any other in New Zealand. True pioneers of the buffalo farming scene locally, the Clevedon Buffalo Company is a family-run business that produces award-winning fresh buffalo mozzarella, bocconcini, ricotta, yoghurt and marinated buffalo cheese.

What is your company background, how did you start the business?

Clevedon Buffalo Co was founded by Helen and Richard Dorresteyn in 2006. They imported New Zealand’s first herd of milking buffalo and were the first company to make buffalo mozzarella and ricotta. They have won multiple awards and now have a 150 strong herd beautiful buffalo which they farm in Clevedon 45 mins South of Auckland.

What is the current product range and variants and how do these products stand out in the market?

All the products are made with 100% creamy porcelain white buffalo milk. The range includes:

  • Ricotta
  • Mozzarella
  • Bocconcini
  • Cherry
  • Oaxaca
  • Yoghurt
  • Tartinade
  • Feta
  • Marinated buffalo cheese and milk.

What are the plans for the business moving forward, is there any expansion on the horizon?

We are working on a buffalo blue cheese that we will launch hopefully next year. This will be an exciting addition to our range.

Where are your products currently available to buy, and are you looking at or wanting to expand your availability?

We do supply many wonderful stores and supermarkets nationwide as well as appearing on the menus at many of the countries top restaurants and hotels. We are always looking for new people that what to work with us and our product. We take pride in our customer service.
