Amazon has closed its check-out-less store in Dalston, UK, only 18 months after it opened. Its failure has been credited to poor location choice.
Amazon announced that it would be pressing pause on opening any new check-out-less stores in 2022. However, despite this announcement and the Dalston store closure, the company plans to open two new stores in the Greater London area this year.
The first reported opening will be in Croydon, bringing the total Amazon Fresh store count to 19 in the UK.
The store’s technology has proven to only be popular in very affluent areas with high levels of professionals. With the rising inflation and cost of living crisis, the stores are not convenient for most of the population.
