KRAFT HEINZ EXPANDS SUSTAINABILITY STRATEGY

Kraft Heinz is embracing the sustainability trend, with a pledge to make all of the companies packaging fully recyclable, reusable or compostable by 2025. Expanding from its environmental commitment to include sustainable packaging on products and combat carbon reduction, the food giant has set a goal to make all of its packaging 100 per cent recyclable by 2025.

Heinz Kraft stated that it would “aggressively pursue technical alternatives” and partner with experts in the packaging industry to help them achieve the goal.

To reach their goal Kraft Heinz hopes to decrease the company’s overall use of packaging, increase the use of already recycled content in its packaging and work with the group, Environmental Packaging International to help track progress and provide services in future packaging solutions.

“Our collective industry has a massive challenge ahead of us concerning packaging recyclability, end-of-life recovery and single-use plastics,” said Bernardo Hees, Chief executive officer of Kraft Heinz.

“Even though we don’t yet have all the answers, we owe it to current and future generations who call this planet ‘home’ to find better packaging solutions and actively progress efforts to improve recycling rates. That’s why Kraft Heinz is placing a heightened focus on this important environmental issue.”

Kraft Heinz has already shown commitment to the pledge with the European division already working towards making its plastic Tomato Ketchup bottles fully recyclable and in circulation by 2022. The company is set to release further details and initiatives regarding its commitment to sustainability in 2019.
