NW Pt Chev Creates Local Job Opportunities

120 jobs being created as New World Point Chevalier launches major local recruitment drive

Auckland’s newest supermarket has geared up to open in September this year.

With it comes a wave of opportunity for locals. Around 120 new jobs will be created at New World Point Chevalier.

The store is building a brand-new team across various positions, from leadership roles like Store Manager and Fresh Food Manager to skilled specialists, including deli chefs, bakers, butchers, and forklift drivers. Frontline roles include checkout supervisors, produce assistants, online order pickers, and general team members.

Owner-operator of New World Point Chevalier, Matthew Mullins, said the scale of the operation may surprise people.

“Supermarkets are busy, exciting businesses. When we’re open for business, we’ll have people on site from early morning until late at night. It takes a lot of great people working together to make a supermarket run smoothly.”

The team at New World Pt Chevalier will be recruited in three waves:

Leadership roles: These will be filled by seasoned grocery or retail professionals.

Supervisors/second-in-charge and specialist roles: Supervisor positions involve leading teams of up to 10 people, so candidates typically bring either supermarket experience or a background in people management.

Strong decision-making skills and the ability to perform well under pressure are important for success in these roles. The store will also recruit specialist roles such as bakers, butchers and forklift drivers.

General team members: Often considered the engine room of the supermarket, these roles include tasks such as shelf-filling, customer service, online order picking, and cleaning. While experience is not essential, a positive attitude and strong work ethic are key.

“It’s like doing a jigsaw puzzle blindfolded. You’re recruiting people in waves, helping them gel as a team and getting them ready to hit the ground running. But when it comes together, it will be incredibly rewarding for us and our team.”

New World Point Chevalier will be the latest store to join the Foodstuffs North Island co-operative, and Mullins added he was focused on being a great local employer.
