Supporting Its Lifeblood

Aldi

UK | Aldi revealed that it had spent an additional £1.3 billion with British suppliers in 2023.

In a year when it opened its 1,000th store and recorded its strongest Christmas ever, Britain’s fourth-largest supermarket invested more than ever in British suppliers and growers, meaning they now provide more than three-quarters of all items sold in its stores.

Aldi works with around 5,000 suppliers across the UK and has been ranked the best supermarket for conducting relationships fairly and in good faith for a record ten years in the GSCOP annual survey.

Julie Ashfield, Managing Director of Buying at Aldi UK, said that British suppliers were the lifeblood of Aldi’s business, and without them, Aldi wouldn’t be where it is today.

“We will always be at their side,” said Ashfield.

“Longstanding relationships with suppliers are at the heart of our success, and we are proud to work with so many British suppliers, helping to bolster job opportunities and investment in the UK supply chain.”

Aldi recently recorded its best-ever Christmas, with sales topping £1.5 billion. Consumer champion Which? also confirmed that Aldi was the UK’s lowest-priced supermarket for 2023, for a third year. Which? also found Aldi to be the cheapest for a typical Christmas shop, with the traditional Big Four supermarkets of Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Morrisons and Asda being more than 23 percent more expensive, on average.

Aldi recently committed to opening up to 500 more stores across Britain, planning to invest more than £1.4 billion over the next two years. This includes work to expand its distribution and store network and improve existing stores and technology infrastructure to support growth.
