UK | What was once considered a little taste of luxury for families in post-war Britain went out of favour as dieting fads fell in and out of fashion from the late 70s.
Today, demand for Jersey milk has soared once again as nutritionists have revised their views and stated that, as part of a balanced diet, full-fat dairy can actually be beneficial.
This has resulted in super health-conscious Gen Zers taking to it in a big way, as it is naturally rich in protein and calcium.
In 2025, Tesco sold more than three million extra litres than it did two years ago.
Jersey milk is having a major moment again, as is full-fat dairy in general, with younger shoppers looking for naturally functional foods that can offer them health benefits, especially as a source of protein.
“In the last few years we’ve also seen demand rise sharply for other protein-rich dairy products such as Greek yoghurt, cottage cheese, kefir and nutrient-enriched puddings and drinks,” said Christos Tsakalos, Tesco milk buyer.
“If you look on social media sites like TikTok, you’ll see that whole milk, particularly Jersey, is having a real moment with many posters not only talking up its protein and calcium richness but also its luxuriant, creamy taste.”
Jersey milk, named after the breed of cow, was introduced in the 1950s following the formation of the Quality Milk Producers co-operative in 1954 to create a premium milk product. It was given a distinctive metallic gold top seal to make it stand out from other milks.
One of the UK’s biggest dairy producers, Grahams The Family Dairy, in Stirlingshire, Scotland, believes Jersey milk demand is at its highest in around 50 years. The dairy started producing its branded Gold Jersey milk 18 years ago and in the last year has seen sales soar by 40 percent.
Dr Robert Graham, Owner of Grahams The Family Dairy, said that people have rediscovered the natural goodness and benefits of this delicious full-fat milk, and that the business has seen steady growth in demand for its Gold Top Jersey milk over the last year.
In February 2026, Google searches for Gold Top, Jersey, or full-fat milk garnered 13,000 views.
