OUT-OF-STOCKS COSTING RETAILERS $63 BILLION

According to a new survey, out-of-stocks cost retailers $63 million a year in sales. The study conducted by Field Agent found that when asked what shoppers found to be the most annoying issues during a grocery shop, the participants responded with out-of-stocks (29%), too few open checkouts (28%) and congested aisles (14%).

When asked what respondents do when a product is not in stock, participants answered: “go to another store.”

“I am extremely loyal to this store, but when items are consistently not in stock it makes me think about changing my loyalty,” said a respondent. Field Agent found that on average customers experience 1.4 out of stocks. The study also found that ice cream and canned soup were the most commonly out-of-stock, followed by yoghurt, shampoo and conditioner and cookies.
