The Newman’s Own Foundation is inviting NZ charities to apply for $300,000 worth of grants. This year Newman’s Own Foundation has committed $225,000 in grants ranging from $25,000 to $50,000 for children’s nutrition projects across the country. In addition to these grants, $75,0000 will be made to other organisations around the country.
Newman’s Own Foundation President and CEO Robert Forrester said the 2019 grants designed to address the issue of child nutrition could include initiatives such as school breakfast programs, food rescue and redistribution, nutritional education, childhood obesity and better food security.
“Newman’s Own Foundation has always placed a high priority on access to healthy foods, especially for children. While the need for good nutrition is particularly acute in the developing world, no country, even the most prosperous does not have some level of problem in this vital area. We have significantly increased support for nutrition projects around the world to help create better food choices for those in need, and we look forward to partnering with organisations serving this need in New Zealand.”
The 2018 NZ Poverty Monitor* recently revealed that 160,000 New Zealand children aged under 15 years old, which is one-in-five, live in situations where there is either not enough food or not enough healthy and nutritious food.
Newman’s Own Foundation was created in 2005 by actor and philanthropist, Paul Newman, to assure his life’s commitment to donating 100 percent of the profits made from the sale of Newman’s Own food and beverage products would continue after his passing. Since 1982, over $540 million has been donated to thousands of charities around the world.
