Reducing Waste One Truck Mudguard At A Time

Rhino Group TWL

Rhino Group and TWL have joined forces as transport industry leaders to reduce heavy transport emissions and limit landfill wastes.

The new initiative has launched a pilot scheme in Tauranga, with its goal to recycle Rhino’s plastic truck and trailer mudguards, as well as to establish a streamlined collection and drop-off system.

This follows Rhino’s initiative in 2021, where they purposefully created mudguards from recycled material that could again be recycled to minimise unnecessary waste. Their investment in creating recycled mudguards was a popular choice across the transport industry, influencing New Zealand's largest heavy vehicle rental and lease company, TR Group, to singularly use them with their fleet.

“This is the next logical step with our recycled mudguards,” said Rhino Group General Manager Will Samuel.

These initiatives follow the increasing demand for definitive action on creating environmentally conscious practices to minimise waste and negative environmental impacts from industries across the board.

“We understand the pressure trucking companies face to reduce emissions and want to support more sustainable solutions for the heavy transport industry.”

The conjoint aim of the initiative is to encourage circular product creation and usage. Centralised drop-off points will be set up nationwide, recycling products that would otherwise go into landfills.

The pilot programme in Tauranga will have a collection point at TWL’s depot at 86 Hewletts Road, Mount Maunganui.

TWL has 20 branches across the country, and the pilot programme will indicate how the initiative will perform throughout New Zealand.

“TWL is pleased to be on this journey with Rhino. Recycling mudguards and mudflaps are a great way to reduce waste. We’re excited to do our bit, in partnership with Rhino, to make the process easier for everyone involved,” shared Mike Brears, TWL National Sales Manager – Commercial Aftersales.
