Somerdale International Unveil New Range

Somerdale

Somerdale International has announced it will launch a new range of its classic British cheeses and blended cheeses at this month’s FHA – Food & Beverage show, held at the Singapore Expo between the 23rd and 26th of April.

The new Somerdale branded range has featured a great-tasting English Mature Cheddar, tastebud tempting Double Gloucester with Chive and Onions, a smoky but mellow Smoked Cheddar, and the classic blend of Wensleydale Cheese with Cranberries. All will be available in individually wrapped 80g sized ‘ice hockey shaped pucks’ that can be sold individually or in a mixed pack of four.  The convenient 80g pack size is ideally suited to bringing more people into the specialty cheese category and encouraging them to widen their repertoire.

FHA – Food & Beverage is expected to attract more than 60,000 trade visitors across Asia.  Recognised as Asia’s leading food and beverage trade event that brings together the global food and beverage and hospitality community, FHA will provide a major opportunity for Somerdale to showcase not only its new range but also ‘fly the flag’ for the very best in British dairy products in what is a fast-growing export market for the business based in the heart of Somerset, England.

In addition to the new ‘puck’ range, visitors to the Somerdale stand will also be able to sample a comprehensive range of great-tasting British cheeses, including a selection of Somerdale, Westminster, and Barbers branded cheese, as well as Applewood, the UK’s number one Smoke-Flavoured Cheese, and Mexicana, the UK’s best-selling spicy cheese.

Rodda’s Classic Cornish Clotted Cream will also be showcased on Somerdale’s stand at FHA. It is perhaps best known for being the quintessential ingredient of the traditional English cream tea. Although still the perfect partner for a scone and jam, clotted cream often accompanies a range of puddings and is also frequently used by chefs and lovers of fine foods to add a bit of luxury to sweet and savoury dishes.

The Rodda family have been making Cornish clotted cream on the same site for five generations, using the same passion, expertise and traditional cooking method for over 125 years. Made solely from rich, local Cornish milk, the cream is separated off and gently baked until it’s thick and silky and a delicate golden crust has formed.  The quality and authenticity of Rodda’s Cornish Clotted Cream is recognised by its holding of a Protected Designation of Origin status – a European Union award designed to protect traditional, regional foods against imitation.

“With 1,500 exhibitors and an expected 60,000 trade visitors from 96 countries and regions, FHA is rightly considered as a key gateway to access the SE Asia and Asia Pacific market.  Somerdale already has a strong presence in China as well as a growing customer base in countries such as South Korea, Malaysia, and Taiwan, as well as, of course, Singapore and we are committed to building upon this," said Stephen Jones, managing director of Somerdale International.

“Post-pandemic and the lifting of associated travel restrictions, we have seen a steady recovery in our sales into the Asia Pacific and Chinese marketplaces. Indeed, we are expecting to see strong interest from buyers from across the region seeking out not only traditional British cheeses and dairy products but also new, more contemporary ones featuring innovative blends, tastes, and textures.”
