In an interview on MSNBC, Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield have said they will not give up on the fight against parent company Unilever over operations in the West Bank after Judge Andrew carter denied Ben and Jerry's request for a preliminary injunction on August 22nd.
"Ben and I were not involved in that decision, but the decision by the company not to sell ice cream in the Occupied Palestinian Territories is consistent with the values that the company has had throughout its history – fighting for human rights and dignity," said Greenfield to MSNBC.
The pair said that the sale of their company would not have gone through without the unique agreement that allows the independent board to make decisions about its social and political identity.
"That agreement gave authority over the social mission to the independent board of Ben & Jerry's. Unilever has usurped its authority and reversed the decision that was made, and we can't allow that to happen. We can't sit idly by," said Cohen.
Cohen and Greenfield have said that they plan on filing an amendment to the lawsuit by September 27, with Unilver's response being due by November 1.
