In 1992, Bryan and Anne Dobson embarked on a journey that would span over three decades as the owner-operators of PAK'nSAVE Invercargill. Back then, it was a different world, and little did they know that their dedication would leave an enduring impact on their Invercargill community.
As the Dobsons prepare to bid farewell after 31 years of unwavering service, Bryan reflects on the legacy they've built. For him, it's all about the people – the customers they've served and the team they've worked alongside. The couple's dedication is evident in the loyalty and commitment of team members, some of whom have been with the store even longer than the Dobsons.
The Invercargill community holds a special place in the hearts of Bryan and Anne. Many customers have expressed gratitude for the couple's service as they move on to a well-deserved retirement.
The love for the grocery business runs deep in the Dobson family. Anne's childhood included part-time work at her parent's dairy, while Bryan sold fresh produce at his family's roadside stall. Fate brought them together after Bryan joined the Foodstuffs South Island co-operative. Two years later, they were married and took ownership of their first supermarket – PAK'nSAVE Invercargill.
The early days were challenging, but with the support of Foodstuffs South Island, the Dobsons transformed the store. Despite the ups and downs, they never considered switching stores or careers, always regarding PAK'nSAVE Invercargill as their family store.

A notable career highlight for the Dobsons was the three-year store renovation amidst the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. Anne cherishes memories of giving back to the local community, supporting events like the Santa Parade.
As Bryan and Anne step back, their children – Matthew, Jason, and Tanya – are ready to continue the family legacy. All three have embraced careers in the grocery business, a natural progression given their upbringing and shared passion for the industry.
The next chapter sees PAK'nSAVE Invercargill passing into the capable hands of Brent and Nicola Prue, former owners of New World Hokitika. As for Bryan and Anne, the road ahead remains uncertain, but one thing is sure. After transitioning from a bustling career to retirement, they look forward to spending quality time with family and friends and exploring new horizons. They hope the Southland Community will continue to enjoy the store's presence for years.
